Now brought to you by wordpress

December 6th, 2008 at 8:09 pm

This evening I changed my website so that the entire thing is powered by Wordpress instead of just the blog. It took at least half an hour because of my own mistakes. :( I’ve written them down in a notebook so I won’t forget the next time I do this. My set-up is a bit more complicated than necessary but I’ll worn on that when I finally do my re-design. Even with that, It’ll be nice not having to log into my server to make minor changes.

Hi Raven — I saw something about you on DC Web Women. I’m a consultant working with an author who has a book coming out and who needs a simple Web site ASAP.

My role is as project manager and since he’s not a geeky guy, I was wondering about whether it should be built in Wordpress so he can make any updates himself. He just registered his domain last night at godaddy.com.

    I have a few questions:

    - Do you have to pay Wordpress to point your domain to its CMS?

    - Do you have to have hosting somewhere or do your files live at Wordpress?

    - Is the WP CMS something average humans can work with or would he be better off just hiring someone to do content updates?

    - What do you charge for content updates?

    Thanks!
